What To Expect

01 Do not bathe the child for the first 24 hours after the Brit Milah. As needed, clean the affected area with wet wipes. Even if fecal matter comes into contact with the bandage, cleaning it with wipes is more than sufficient.

02 The bandage should not fall off, but if it does, and there is no bleeding, it is not a cause for concern. Simply take a gauze pad lined with Vaseline and place it over the penis and close it in the diaper. I will be coming to either take down the bandage or check on the healing process around 24 hours after the procedure.

03 The baby needs to urinate regularly. If this is not happening, please be in contact with me.

04 The main concern after a Brit Milah is bleeding. The definition of bleeding is deep, dark red, wet blood in the baby’s diaper, covering the circumference of about 2 inches (the opening of a large drinking glass). If this happens, call me on my cell phone right away, anytime. The number again is 054-735-2408. Keep in mind, when the child first urinates, he will be urinating through dried blood from the Brit, and therefore there will be a pink coloring to the urine you will see in the diaper. This is normal and not a cause for alarm.

Once the Brit Milah is over until the child is sleeping for the night, you must open the diaper and check that there is no bleeding once every hour. There is a chance that the bandage can slip and there could be additional bleeding. If this does occur, simply call me and I'll come and put on another bandage.

After I’ve removed the bandage, 24 hours after the Brit took place (although sometimes later*), you may not bathe the child for another 24 hours.

Keep in mind, if you have any questions about any of this, please do not hesitate to call.

• There are times when the bandage is removed that there is more bleeding. In an occurrence such as this, it may be necessary to apply a second bandage for another 24 hours. In this case, one must wait 24 hours after the second bandage is removed before bathing the child.
